Rick Martin, an associate of the Buffalo Sabres' fabled "French Connection" line within the 1970s, has died at age 59, the Nationwide Hockey League group has said.
The Sabres introduced Martin's death inside a statement before Sunday's game against Ottawa.
Ny state police stated Martin died following a one-car crash within the Buffalo suburb associated with Clarence.
NYSP Captain Steven Nigrelli said the vehicle Martin was driving crossed the middle line of the street and struck a software application pole before visiting rest against the tree.
Nigrelli said witnesses saw Martin together with his head slumped as well as eyes closed in the wheel and it appeared he had "an undetermined medical emergency" before the accident.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the reason for death, police stated.
"Rick was not only one of the biggest players in business history, he was an excellent friend to the actual Sabres organization as well as entire community, " a statement in the team said.
